Evan LERNER for B-R Board of Education

I am 56 years old and have two children in school in the District, Samantha, a senior at the high school, and Ariel, a freshman. We live in the Adamsville School area and both of my kids attended B-R schools since kindergarten.
My wife Marla and I have been married 24 years. Marla is a Veterinary Technician at Bernardsville Animal Hospital. For much of our time in Bridgewater, she's also been a Girl Scout Leader, Class Parent, or both.
I grew up in New Rochelle, NY (0-16) and finished up my high school years in Hollywood, FL. Both of these communities, like Bridgewater, have very diverse populations, both socioeconomically and racially, and large school districts. They're also both wonderful communities to grow up in, offering a multitude of academic and recreational opportunities.
I received my college degree with honors from the University of Florida and a law degree from the Washington College of Law at the American University, where I served on the Law Review and was awarded both a Dean's Research Fellowship and a Dean's Research Fellowship.
Following my graduation from law school, I spent seven years practicing corporate and securities law at major New York City law firms, Cahill Gordon & Reindel and Kaye Scholer, and later served as general counsel to Nathan's Famous, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and Great Earth Vitamins.
On September 11, 2001, my family and I were living across the street from the World Trade Center. Our apartment building sustained substantial damage and we were rendered homeless. (It reopened in May of 2002). It was time to leave Manhattan, where I'd lived since 1983. Within eight weeks we bought our home in Bridgewater and moved in at the end of November, 2001. We chose to live in Bridgewater because it would provide our children the same type of experience I had as a child.
In 2002, I co-founded Lerner, Cumbo & Associates, a regional search and staffing company headquartered in New York City. We place attorneys, accountants/financial personnel, IT workers, and administrative people in permanent, temporary, and temp-to-perm jobs.
I am most satisfied when busy. In addition to spending free time with family and working on Board of Education activities, I play tenor saxophone and electric guitar in a rock band (Steele Groove - check us out on Facebook!), and love to hike and swim with our dogs.
I
I am also an active fundraiser and supporter of the Young Survival Coalition (www.youngsurvival.org), the preeminent charity in the US devoted to helping young women with breast cancer. Last month I finished my 9th "Tour de Pink," a 200+ mile ride in support of the YSC. Team Bridgewater (which I co-founded) raised over $10,000 this year and we've committed to ride again next year.
